When he was thrown down, he couldn't get up again. No matter how much he snarled and tried. The Dead-Thing walked away from him, staggering and bleeding and cursing. But Leader-Kit was safe. He'd fought and bit and killed and been a bad dog, and now his blood was freezing in the snow. But Leader-Kit was safe. And that was all that mattered.
Found this speed-painting from a while back and thought I'd post it. Bodkin dies after an encounter with The Cat. Kit's story is ultimately one about accepting responsibility. Bodkin represents a lot of facets: the sins of Kit's father, his abusive past, the relationship of anger to fear, and ultimately how one still has to accept responsibility for the things that hurt others despite beginning with good intentions. Bodkin didn't know any better. Kit did.
Goddamit WHY does my favorite character always die?! Although a better question might be 'Why is my favorite always the the terrifying one that eats people?"
When Kit returns from his self-imposed exile, he'll take the pick of the litter. If you'd ever like to, I wouldn't mind playing through him and Miranda interacting, because Kit would be like "Bod's pups, hell or high water, this one's mine."
