Scribble-scrabble attempting to play with style a little more for the Hunters, before I start their reference sheets. Clockwise starting with the bottom center is Tor, Fen, River, Ash, and Moor. The Hunter's presence is what gives the book a good part of its darkness, and its urban fantasy flavor, but I want them to appear slightly unsettling. They are a subversion of the "heroic demon slayer", however gritty and anti-hero you want to get; they are a definite take on the idea that when you look into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Not that I actually accomplished that with this piece, but it's a stepping stone. Also, the background was a photo I took of the Austin cityscape. I thought it was kinda cool. I need to do that more often.
The difference in style is obvious. I was actually a little surprised to see your name below the thumbnail, lol. You always do such a nice job in black and white. Below the neck lines I find it hard to sort-out what I'm looking at; maybe something that could be fixed by playing around with line variation - I'm not sure. But the heads are all very distinct and read easily. The background kicks so much butt along with the overall composition. I'd definitely love to see more backgrounds like this.
