"Uh, Vin ... Can I ask you a question?"
"How were you ever
bullied before we met you?"
This is strictly concept art for Daemon Soul, and quite a successful experiment. First off, I used pencil line instead of ink, a most difficult, teeth-gritting ordeal for me, who praises Streamline in the highest name. Pencil has a nice transperancy to it, though. Seconds, I changed my brush to a "curry brush" [link]
, so it behaves more like a natural paintbrush with perpetually perfect flow. I usually color with master opacity and flow set to about %30, which makes for a very blended, smudgy look. Good for subtle shadows, not fur. So the curry brush let me do fur a lot better. And it challenged me to use my tablet with more precise motion. Minimal use of the smudge tool, too. I think I learned some new stuff about lineart and coloring here, and the experiments shall continue.
Um, as for the character, I was really trying to get color scheme down. I don't think this is what I'll be going with color wise, but the markings on the quills, horns, etc. turned out nice. Vindex in his normal wolf form just has a crappy pose that I wasn't able to save with painting. That's why it's concept. Vindex as a character is a very meek and shy fellow, mistreated on the streets he grew up on. And his warform is not a "you wouldn't like me when I'm angry" thing; Vindex changes his appearance, not his mindset. He doesn't like to look mean and scary.
