+DS Concept+:: Alert Fortune by Droemar +DS Concept+:: Alert Fortune by Droemar
"How can daemons have hid all this time?"
"They haven't exactly. Lots of things, like dragons and griffins, have just been daemons."
"Yeah, but uh ... no offense, but who's not going to notice a cheetah with antelope horns?"
"Nobody can lie to people better than they can lie to themselves."

As [link] puts it, the "spotted sultan", Sospes. I'm learning so much with this concept work. One of my biggest problems in coloring is being timid with my shadows. Real life tends to throw very bold shadows, so that was what I was trying to go for. I am very pleased with the result. My reflected light still needs some work, and Sos has king cheetah spots, so I could stand to study their markings a little more closely. I did finally figure out how to get Streamline to give me super-thin lines without canceling them out completely. Huzzah for this!

I find myself continously frustrated in working with transparent PNGs. The small image has a background, usually with little pixels, but the full view image works fine. Does anyone know how to make the little image look transparent, too? It was kind of the point ...

Sospes is an Air daemon who has very good luck combat-wise, and extends that luck to anyone surrounding him. He is Nandin's daemon counterpart and the guardian of his soul. Sospes is very benign and quiet; he usually tends to let Nandin do most of the talking. For an Air daemon, he's very laid back, and quite friendly. He has not changed much since his creation, he's always been a nice support character and sort of a diplomat for the more hotheaded daemons like Metuo when Nandin inevitabley pisses them off.

In the original Greek context, philosophers like Socrates believed that the soul could be possessed or assuaged by a "daemon", a lowly spirit responsible for things like love, lust, passion, or anger. Not unlike the djinn or jinn of Mesopotamian myth. Socrates claimed to have a daimonion, a small daemon that warned him against mistakes but never told him what to do or coerced him into following it. Eventually daemon became synonymous with inspirational thoughts (literally "genius" and "daemon" could mean the same thing), and conscience. There were good daemons and bad daemons. This belief seeped into Judeo-Christian religion and was a tad more vilified, but the concept of "possession" is still the same thing.
Honestly, the best representation of a daemon I've ever seen is in His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. They are literally the physical manifestation of a person's soul, providing advice, warning, and ideas. My daemons were supposed to be actual mystical beasts that used to guard the souls of mankind, but that story idea is kind of on hiatus ...

I think if you save and use a separate preview file it should solve the problem. I think dA just compressed the preview images funny while uploading.

just save a smaller version of the file I think, I've never tried it with a .png, but I've used separate preview files for .gif and .jpg I think dA rezises them if they're over a certain size, but it's certainly worth a try.
