Group 1:5 Kit Farson Kit bent over his bowl of oatmeal. It felt strange to have hot food after such a long time of canned breakfasts or venison jerky.  Around him, the kitchen of the Community bustled, shouted greetings, laughed, and gossiped.
Kit felt alone without the dogs. He'd left Bodkin on watch at the shed he hadn't quite moved out of yet. As he'd walked away, Bodkin had given a low woof. It was a sound Kit had never heard him make.
He turned to see Bodkin alert, tail up and wagging, as he stared at a sweet-faced Labrador.  A female.  She sniffed along the shed opposite them.

Group 1:4 Kit Farson "Jack, could I speak to you for a moment?"
Jack Elder grimaced.  Whenever John Yew asked that question it meant trouble.  A lecture. A sermon.  Another problem to add to the buckets of thousands Jack already couldn't handle.
"Uh, can it wait?  I have … boxes that need unloading."
Yew straightened the glasses on his nose, pointing to a trio of teens from Jack's Underground carrying them into the kitchen.  "Those boxes?"
"Uh, yeah.  Yeah, that would be them."  Jack examined one of his cigarettes, glowering at it.
Yew turned away. "It won't take long, I promise.
Loner 1:3 Kit Farson Kit lay on his side, curled up in the roots of a massive oak.  The dogs slept against him, content in the silence. Kit felt like a hole had been ripped in his chest. He kept seeing Dale McKinney's head snap back and disintegrate.
He watched a beetle crawl over moss.
Kept hearing himself tell Dale to kneel.
Kneel.
"Kneel."
"Please, Dad, don't.  I'm sorry," Kit said. He tried not to whine. Whining and crying just exhorted his father to greater efforts. "I didn't mean to forget."
"I said kneel, boy." Eric Farson's face was ugly relief in the harsh light of a bare bulb in the cabin.  He held his belt like

Kit froze at the sound, heart in his throat. The gait was shambling, crunching thorns underfoot. Kit unslung his rifle. His breath fogged in the mist of the forest.
He'd shoot.  This time he'd do it, he'd kill a zombie no matter what.
Beside him, his burly, trained-with-military-precision dog wailed and ran.
"Damn you, Beggar!"
Kit lit out after him, hellfire terror burning in his chest.
Beggar glanced back, the grenade and whiskey flask tied to his harness clattering wildly. He tucked his tail when the sleeping bag lashed to his back tumbled loose, and ran faster.
Kit trampled the bag, shouting, "B

While raptors are my namesake and all, the armored dinosaurs are an extremely close second. Maybe if I'd had an Ankylosaur toy to cherish instead of my Primal Rage Talon action figure, I'd be called Polacanthar or something. (Armadon doesn't count, he was clearly ceratopsian.) Everyone always loved T-Rex; I loved the fact that T-Rex could get knocked toothless by something that didn't really even have to move to do it.

Edmontonia is actually probably my all-time favorite, followed by Euplocephalous, but neither lived in the Early Cretaceous. However, Gastonia did, who was my favorite at the Utah Museum of Prehistoric Life. Sauropelta did, too, and both species appear in Mark of the Conifer. Gastonia has a lot of friggin' spines to study; I'm glad I did like 5 scribbles of him while I had a skeleton to study.

Aside from the fact that this clade suffers from probably the worst "It belongs here! No wait ... here!" arguments, there are a lot of cool theories surrounding the ankylos. Some think they may have had trunks or some other appendage on their noses, because they have such big, complex nasal chambers. I'm also well aware that I took some pretty dynamic liberties with how these things might have moved, but the fact that their armor isn't attached to their skeleton just opens up too many worlds of cool to ignore.

The only things I'll say NOT to reference is the spike patterns. Look at a real skeleton to make sure of how things looked; I was kinda random.

OH MY GOD PRIMAL RAGE HAD ACTION FIGURES?!

That said, I really enjoyed these tutorials. Good stuff! You an't find such quality resources on dinosaurs everywhere. <3

Nicely done, though the little running Ank throws me off-I'm used to the 90 degree rule for theropods! Ankylosaurs are some of the trickier dinos to draw-but this reference should help! ^^

And odd trivia-I went to an exhibit once where the poor Saichania's knee was mounted backwards. It was painful just to look at, but the sad part was it wasn't the first or the last dinosaur mounted like that. ^^;

I'm gonna be honest I don't draw too many dinosaurs, but I have sooo many creature concepts that utilize this exact body type that I have struggles FOREVER to draw! Very sweet tutorial.

Ankylsoaurids are my favourites! Thanks for this. I'm basing some fantasyish creatures on them (because what fun are dragons based on boring raptors? ;) and this will be really useful.
